John L. Schurlknight was born January 30, 1964.  A Berkeley county native, he graduated from St. Stephen’s Academy as Valedictorian in 1982.  John attended Clemson University where he was a member of the football team.  He graduated cum laude in 1986 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Economics.   John received his juris doctor from the University of South Carolina School of Law in 1989.  John joined the Law firm of Purvis & Saleeby, P.A. which later became Purvis & Schurlknight, P.A. in 1991.  In 1992 John became an associate with the law firm of Ben R. Matthews, P.A.  He became a shareholder with the formation of Matthews, Schurlknight & Rivers, P.A. in 1996.  Following the withdrawal of Ben R. Matthews from the practice, John is a founding partner and shareholder of Schurlknight & Rivers, P.A. with offices in Florence and Myrtle Beach.

 John has developed a trial practice representing the needs of injured people.  A significant portion of John’s practice now consist of medical malpractice claims.  Professionally, John is a member of the American Trial Lawyers Association, the South Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, the South Carolina Bar Association and the Florence County Bar Association.  He is licensed to practice in both state and federal courts.  John is admitted to practice before the United States Court of Appeals.

 John Schurlknight is a Darlington resident.  John is married to Malinda and they have two wonderful children, Lee, age 10, and Laura, age 8.  John is a member of the Darlington First Baptist Church where he serves on the stewardship committee.  John is an active supporter of the Florence and Darlington YMCA’s.  John also serves on the board of the Darlington Dixie Youth Baseball League.  His hobbies include golf, boating and coaching little league, baseball, basketball and football.
